What a weekend! Sunshine, music, family fun and all with the focus on environmental issues, the climate crisis and generally how to put our global house in order by beginning close to home.
The Poetry Cafe were there, in the E-Hive marquee for poetry open mic and a chilled family workshop for any budding poets who wanted to put their words down on paper. We also had a stall out on the field with a host of other local groups from The Green Party and Greenpeace, to Bespoke Bicycle Club. All had a message and a joint intention to shift towards change.
Mr John and I were there, ably assisted by John Roper and Sylvie, manning our stool and taking full advantage to talk to the public about poetry, the climate, the environment, words, wisdom and weather! The atmosphere, like the sunshine was sublime, music and entertainment provided by local groups and artists who sang, danced and drummed for the general public, all for free on the big stage at Prince's Park. It was lovely!
The public kindly added a line or two to our Festival Poem that grew and grew as the three day weekend proceeded. Look out for snippets on Twitter and on here!
We managed to encourage lots of people to enter our National Poetry Day competition and John and I are looking forward to reading the entries before passing them on to our judges: Environmental activist and founder of Eastbourne ECO Action Network and poet, Andrew Durling and former Poetry Cafe Guest Poet, Robin Houghton.
