For reasons varied and convoluted, October left us without a Guest Poet - But never fear, our wonderful community was more than able to fill the breach!
A small but perfectly formed gathering of poets combined to make an evening where there was much to admire, celebrate and enjoy - including of course Mr John's Challenge which this month was: 'Lost for Words' in which Pam created a collective noun for a group of poets as a 'heard'.
Jules started us off with beautiful renditions of her NPD competition entries 'Counting One Day' and 'When I was Young' and the inimitable Peter Wathen shared his feeling of Autumn as a sombre almost melancholy time with the words, 'when a season goes with such grace.' Di Hills, one of the competition winners, gave us Mona Lisa's perspective of a bored sitter and a poem based on the TV show, Naked Attraction and a mortified handsome hunk!
We had Jackson's recalling of a break up and Sunita's acknowledgement of the many thousands of female names never listed with those who are put to rest in the Ganges.
Zara gave us a breathtaking reading of life's struggles and those 'immersed in black, unable to see the key they hold to set them free'
We had poems about the constantly horrific and unfolding disaster in the Middle East with 'Small Child' and the eternal question of, 'What if?'
It was indeed a most wonderful gathering and our thanks go out to the poets and our audiences who come to make poetry count, come rain or shine.
We hope to see as many of you as can make it at our next gathering on the 12th November with Pratibha Castle as our Guest Poet. Looking forward to another great evening!
