Laura Fernandez-Kayne delivers Seaside, Science and the Sublime

Laura Fernandez-Kayne, as July's Guest Poet, delivered the entirety of seaside, science and the sublime in all things. From sisters to stars, Laura's words posed the idea of links between the profound and the elemental. "Being Grounded" gave our audience a beautiful fusion of the depths of science in gravity and the weight of love in 'the brush of your hand, your kiss'. Icarus in "Flight" and grandfather's blazer making, combined to give us a session of spoken word that was both moving and thought provoking. On show was a rare ability to reach the intimate from the starting blocks of the universal. A wonderful set by Laura that was much appreciated by our Poetry Café audience.

You can watch a tiny slice of Laura's set on you tube here:

Mr John and I were delighted to find the open mic slots boosted by readings from new participants. It's never an easy thing to stand in front of an audience for the first time - add to that the showcasing your own personal slant and creativity which combines for a heady mixture to induce nerves, but the poetry did not disappoint - in fact it excelled! We hope to see more first timers as well as second and subsequent timers. The community is growing to be a hive of creative talent and there is no lack of appetite to hear the work of home grown talent.

Among our first time readers was Peter Kenny who alongside Robin Houghton, hosts Planet Poetry Podcast https://planetpoetrypodcast.com/ If you haven't found this podcast on your radar, please do look them up. It really is an excellent listen.

We'll be taking a break for August but return again 12th September at The Dolphin Inn here in Eastbourne. Set the evening aside and come along.
