Thursday afternoon of the Jubilee weekend saw Grove Road and South Street closed to traffic and the good people of Eastbourne came out to fill that space in force. Tables and chairs filled the space and people settled in for the entertainment hosted by a main stage outside of the Town hall where the two streets meet. Sunshine, good humour and music filled the air.
Printer's Playhouse put on a full programme to entertain too, and at 3:15, battling against the background of the main stage PA, The Poetry Cafe Poets shared their words, wit and wisdom with an appreciative audience.
Mister John with tales of governments always being worse than the last one, his coronation mug and poignant words linked to the passing of all things mortal.
Alvin, gave us his wonderfully entertaining take on human absurdities and our tendencies to miss what's right in front of us. John Wright elevated the tone with some beautiful natural portraits. Pam gave us pause to think about Her Majesty's power and the passing of her reign to the next generation. Jean finished the session with some acrostics written by the children in the school in which she works.
Such a range of poetry in such a short time which we managed to do with our ususal aplomb and with just enough time in hand to give a good shout out for our National Poetry Day competition which is totally free to enter.
If you haven't done so already, get your poems in before the end of August!
