Mr John and I had some fun with the wonderful hosts at Seahaven FM reciting, talking and promoting poetry. Our aim was to promote our poetry competition and encourage people to enter, but time flew past and promotion was sidelined in favour of encouragement to support the vibrant and growing spoken word open mic scene here in Sussex.
John and I arrived with our poems and a few nerves, but the lovely Kathy Harding (totally wonderful presenter) and the lovely Tom Bonner (producer and chief photographer - equally wonderful!) quickly put us at ease and made our conversation on poetry and the Poetry Café as easy as if it were with old friends. To demonstrate that poetry is for all, regardless of the starting point, Kathy herself left us dwelling on a sweet tooth with an on the spot poem about Magnums - we all shared in her concern that they may run out!
Our selected music tracks melodically punctuated discussions on Poetry Café origins, the sheer enjoyment of poetry and the supportive community that continues to share its creativity each month. Our National Poetry Day Showcase, October 5th at the Fisherman's Club was almost lost in amongst the chat! Nonetheless, we were tremendously grateful for the opportunity to wax lyrical about our poetry, our community and our hopes that more will engage with this most cathartic and unifying art form.
We will be returning to Seahaven FM early in October to share the winning entries to our competition with the station's listenership. So, if you'd like to hear your words shared on the radio, enter the competition and the opportunity awaits!
