Peppy Scott and David Smith brought life and laughter to our April audience with their unfailing fabulousness!
Peppy bared truths in her inimitable style on the merits of aging gracefully - or disgracefully, labelling mirrors, 'instruments of terror', where 'we paint over the cracks' at our magnified 'imperfection'. For some of us there, Peppy's words both relieved and amused in equal measure. Insightful, poignant and uniting. Her lines, 'The older I get, the less I know certainty' struck a chord with all.
David burst through into audience participation with a range of artfully composed pieces that he delivered with ease. Laughter rang as he treated us to 'The Thingamagig', 'The Cupboard Under the Stairs', 'Suddenly Last Summer' all from memory with impressively executed rhythm and rhyme. It really was an enviable display of how to make something quite wonderful. The tale of 'One eyed Stinky Willy', the poetic tale of a Klondike prospector's dog: Yella, was hilarious and much appreciated by our audience!
Together on stage, the duo gave us a shanty that all joined in with. The audience this month may have been small but the applause and appreciation was huge!
Peppy and Dave - Flitt and Folio - are busy organising the Tunbridge Wells Poetry Festival for this summer. You can find details here: https://twpoetryfestival.com/
Do join their emailing list for news as it arrives.
'Nuts in May' at Tonbridge Telegraph Club is a fundraiser for Tonbridge Calling where you can see the duo in all their glory, doing what they do so brilliantly. (See you there!)
