Amanda kicks off 2025

pamknapp

The January Open Mic got the Poetry Café off to a good start to 2025. A good number of people including 13 open mic-ers  created a vibrant  atmosphere. The evening started with some exquisite seasonal poems that then branched out into the usual rich mix of personal experience, philosophy politics and humour. We even had one poem in Spanish about the

importance of family and belonging. Accidentally two poets produced poems relevant to our world poetry day theme of “journeying”

Our guest poet Amanda Hill helped to make it into another unforgettable evening. Her poems were accompanied and illuminated by contextual introductions in a way that made for a well constructed performance. In the first half a short series of poems relating to a rescue dog who became an integral part of her life felt worthy of a short pamphlet on its own.

Our new venue in the downstairs room of the Frontier Bar is gradually being improved and more accessible and losing its makeshift character.

Please join us next month for another exciting poet, Tim Barlow.
