What a night! The Dolphin Inn had double booked our open mic slot in the restaurant rooms and Mr John arrived to find the room bedecked with tables set for a feast, with crackers and festive trimmings. Would we have to cancel?Would we have to turn people away? No! Mr John's quick thinking and his superhero head on, led us back to our spiritual home just along the road at The Vinyl Frontier - who in an act of superb generosity gave us their basement to set up and hold our open mic with barely a hitch! So, so, so many thanks to Daniel for allowing and accomodating us.
As if that wasn't exciting enough, our outstanding Guest Poet, Jackie Hutchinson, was a force of poetic nature. Her poignant and thought provoking poems touched our hearts and minds with works inspired by her late sister, a beautiful portrait of sisterly bonds across lives; the pressure women place on one another in 'Got to Straighten My Hair' and the itinerant life portrayed in the novel 'Salt Path' to mention but a few of the many sparkling gems shared with our audience on Tuesday. A bounty of truly impressive and resonating poetry. We encourage Jackie to share her work with the wider world and compile a collection for publication. It really is wonderfully written - and indeed, read
Tuesday's open mic saw several first time readers at the Poetry Cafe, including Sunita, our most loyal listener who made the crossover to speaker with wonderful aplomb! Once again, I felt the support and appreciation of a marvellous community of poets, all sharing important things to say via the most beautiful of mediums.
Have a happy, poetic and restful festive break. Hope to see you all again in 2024.
